So Cooper had his first ever cross country meet on Saturday.
Let me tell you, that was quite an experience.
The parking alone was nuts!!!
I believe the meet was what we would call "organized chaos"!!! People EVERYWHERE! And you have to remember, we've never done this before, so we just junped right in not knowing what to do!! We finally got Cooper where he needed to go just in time. They lined up all the boys in grades K-3. the course was so curvy that the kids followed a guy in a Mule.
They ran a 1/2 mile. After it was over, they were handed a card with where they placed. I ran up to cooper and asked what number he got. He said " a 6 and a 5 mama!!!" Ooohh, #65? Not bad for your first offficial meet!
Awards are given out to the first ten who place, so we loaded up and headed home! He said he had fun and was ready to do it again!!This meet was an invitational, so he had to run with 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders. Normally they would divide up among grade level. When that happens, those poor kids aren't going to know what blew past them when Cooper takes off!

After we got to the field, the big boys split up and went to find a spot. The little boys were to pick someone to stand with. Well, after a while they wanted to "go see" someone else. So we would wave our arms to get the other's attention and send the little one off.
Here is Cooper going to "go see" Uncle Ray. This became a game after a while.

Wonder what he is thinking...

Here dovey, dovey, dovey...

The official hunting portrait.....

Following the big boys to the dove field....

"Bubba, where are all the doves?"
Look at those cheeks!!! Rubye ann definately got her cheeks from Big D!

Big D found some hulls on the ground from the morning shoot and was trying to put them in his gun.

The boys were soooooooooo excited to get going. They kept asking "Is it time to go huntin' yet?" Here Cooper displays proper hunting attire: Hat, earphones, camo shirt, jeans, and ugly rubber boots. Oh yeah, check out the cool shotgun! I told Daddy they needed shotguns to really be a part of the action. I knew Wal-Mart had them but of course ours in Ruston didn't, so he was able to pick them up in PB. They are really neat they make a shooting sound when the trigger is pulled and has little shells too.

These two couldn't get enough of these shotguns. The plan was for the guns to stay at the farm...well that didn't happen. they made the trip home with us. Davis was so tired of waitng for the big boys to get their act together. He got all his stuff and climbed into the "moole" (mule) to wait.

I love this one. Bubba had just opened his shotgun and put it over his shoulder and Cooper had watched him. So of course what followed was this: Cooper put his gun over his shoulder too, but it didn't seem the same....I stepped in and assisted...

There we go! These kids are so dang cute!

Well hello there, bright eyes!

So this weekend ws quite the busy one for us! We went to the farm with my parents for opening day of dove season. And let me tell you, we have two little boys who are BIG fans!!! The big boys had gone first thing in the morning and the little boys slept in, but as soon as they saw the big boys roll in, they wanted to go watch them "pick the doves".

They both decided to pick one up and say cheese, except that as soon as Davis picked his up, the tail feathers came apart and it fell to the ground. If you look close on the right side above my dad's hand you can see a grey blurr. That's Davis' dove.

Uncle Raymond joined everybody and fried us some yummy fish, homemade fries and hushpuppies and he even added something new to his menu: onion tangles. with sauce. YUM. Jamie's brother Ray drove up on Saturday morning for some of the action.
The little boys were so excited about getting to go dove hunting.....I'll share those photos tomorrow.
